SHIFT DESCRIPTIONS:
1-3pm: Setup the event with staff: help load in and set up signs, tents, sound equipment, tables, food, decorations, etc.
3-5pm: Help serve food to attendees and help with other tasks as assigned.
5-7pm: Breakdown the event: take down and load equipment, signage, tents, tables, decorations, etc.
This is a free, public community event hosted jointly by the City of Tigard and the Tigard-Tualatin School District that is welcoming and open to celebrants of all races, and honors and uplifts Black community members for this important holiday. The event features free catered food, live entertainment, the Tigard Public Library, art, games, a raffle and more! Volunteer shifts will consist of setup, during-event shifts, and teardown.
The federal holiday Juneteenth celebrates the freedom of Black and African American people in our country and the end of slavery on June 19, 1865, when the Emancipation Proclamation was enforced in Texas at the end of the Civil War. This event is joyful, casual, and family-friendly.
