Shifts will either take place at Tigard Towne Square (located at the corner of Durham Rd. and Hwy 99) for parade help, or Tigard High School (9000 SW Durham Rd, Tigard, OR 97224) for festival setup or teardown. For this shift, help set up the Pride Festival which this year is INSIDE of Tigard High School (still open to all--not just students--though students and kids are very much welcome!). This will involve hanging up decorations, moving furniture, and helping vendors and performers carry things inside to the Comms area.

For this assignment, help us break down the Pride Festival, inside Tigard High School this year (open to all attendees, not just students & youth) - take down decorations, move furniture, and help vendors and performers load out.

This volunteer position will help get parade registrants signed in, hand out decorations for participants, and follow the back of the parade to pick up candy and trash as it proceeds down Durham Rd. from 113th St. to 92nd St. 

Bin Sorters commit to a weekly shift. Volunteers move returned books to carts for shelving.  

Volunteers will exclusively work on organizing unsorted carts into order so they are ready for shelving. 

Assessing donated materials to determine their status (sellable, usable, donatable, or to discard), prepping donations for the Friends of the Library to process and keeping the Donated Materials section of the library rolling shelves organized.

Garden Helpers support the Native Garden in front of Tigard Public Library. Activities may include weeding, planting, mulching, and other outdoor tasks to help the Native Garden flourish.

All ages are welcome to volunteer in the garden. Youth under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who volunteers with them. General volunteer orientation is required for garden volunteers ages 12+.

We are happy to accommodate social clubs, scouting troops, corporate teambuilding, and other volunteer groups in the garden. If you have a group of 5+, a custom orientation can be arranged for the beginning of a shift by emailing the library’s volunteer coordinator, Becca, at becca.reyes@tigard-or.gov.

Garden Leads support the Native Garden in front of Tigard Public Library. Activities may include leading other volunteers and collaboratively weeding, planting, mulching, or completing other outdoor tasks to help the Native Garden flourish.

Invasive weeds have overtaken the library's garden during our building closure.

Do you love the environment? Would you like to volunteer outside? Are you interested in supporting local pollinators? Come join our Garden Work Party! 

We'll pull invasive weeds to help the local plants, support pollinators, and get the garden back in shape. If we make enough progress, we'll plant some starts, too! 

All ages are welcome to volunteer in the garden. Youth under age 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who volunteers with them. We are happy to accommodate social clubs, scouting troops, corporate teambuilding, and other volunteer groups in the garden.

Volunteers will organize the Holds Wall to ensure items are in the correct location and will shelve any holds that are ready for patrons to pick-up.

Volunteer checks in and rotates newspapers on a weekly bassis

Do you love precision and order? Can you sort with Dewey and alphabetize with ease? Are you looking for an ongoing position in the very heart of library operations? If so, we’d love to have your support as a Shelver!

Shelvers push carts of library materials from the workroom and place each item in its correct spot on the library shelves. Shelvers do their best to ensure no books are lost. When the materials carts aren’t organized, Shelvers will sort a cart before shelving. This position involves following detailed rules in the shelving guide and shelving in all areas of the library.

This position is physically demanding with repetitive reaching, bending, twisting, squatting, and reading small print. Shelvers regularly push a cart of books, lift books, and access the top, middle, and bottom shelves of the library's collections.

Shelver is a Circulation position. Circulation volunteers are required to complete three shifts per month. Shelver shifts are 2 hours long and available during most library hours. If you have completed the library's Circulation volunteer training, you may sign up for this position.

Do you have an eye for detail? Are you passionate about precision? Do you have a knack for numbers and an aptitude for alphabetization? If so, we'd love to have your support as a Stacks Steward!

On an ongoing basis, Stack Stewards review library collections to look for lost materials and ensure each item is in its proper place. This involves reading, organizing, facing, balancing, and tidying library shelves. At the beginning of each shift, Stacks Stewards review the list on the Circulation bulletin board or check in with a Circulation lead worker to learn the highest priorities for the shift.

This position is slightly less physically demanding than the library's other Circulation volunteer positions. Volunteers should be comfortable pushing a small cart of books, lifting books one at a time, and accessing the top, middle, and bottom shelves of the library's collections.

Stacks Steward is a Circulation position. Circulation volunteers are required to complete three shifts per month. Stacks Steward shifts are 1 hour long and available during specific library hours. If you have completed the library's Circulation volunteer training, you may sign up for this position.

Welcome back to being a Bin Sorter at Tigard Public Library! These 60-minute shifts are shorter than the usual Bin Sorter shifts. Whether you're a confident Bin Sorter eager to return or a less confident Bin Sorter who would like a little extra support, these shifts are a good way to reengage with Tigard Public Library's Circulation team. During these shifts, you'll refamiliarize yourself with the AMH bins and the cart sorting system while helping Circulation staff work through the backlog of items from the building closure. Extra Circulation staff experts will be available to answer questions to ensure you feel fully confident and prepared before the building reopens to the public. 

*Note: These Welcome Back! Bin Sorter shifts are only open to volunteers who have already completed Circulation training and also trained as a Bin Sorter. Bin Sorters commit to a recurring weekly volunteer shift. If you would like to learn more about becoming a Bin Sorter or Circulation training, please reach out to the library's volunteer coordinator at becca.reyes@tigard-or.gov.

Welcome back to shelving at Tigard Public Library! These 45-minute shifts are a little shorter than the usual Cart Sorter shifts. Whether you're a confident Cart Sorter eager to return or a less confident Cart Sorter who would like a little extra support, these shifts are a good way to reengage with Tigard Public Library's Circulation team. During these shifts, you'll help sort the enormous backstock of items from the temporary building closure while refamiliarizing yourself with the Shelving Guide and the library's many collections. Extra Circulation staff experts will be available to help direct your work and answer questions to ensure you feel fully confident and prepared before the building reopens to the public.  

This position requires repetitive reaching, lifting of books one at a time, and reading small print.

*Note: This position is only open to volunteers who have already completed Circulation training. Circulation volunteers are required to complete three shifts per month.
